Sylvie joined Sicotte Guilbault LLP as a partner, on January 26th, 2009 and practices mainly Business Law, in both official languages. She is also responsible for the Franchise and Distribution Law section of the firm as well as the Finance Law section.
She is an active participant and Franchise Support Services Member of the Canadian Franchise Association ("CFA") and sits on the CFA's Legal and Legislative Update Committee.
Sylvie graduated from the University of Ottawa’s French Common Law Program in 1991 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993, along with Denis Sicotte, the firm's founding partner.
In 1995, Sylvie took on a temporary position as Acting Regional Director of Education and Faculty Adviser for the Law Society of Upper Canada in Ottawa. Since 1995, she continues to act as a tutor for Bar Admission Course students in areas of Real Estate and Commercial Law.
In 1996, Sylvie became General Counsel for Algonquin Travel Corporation, a travel industry franchisor with more than 76 franchises in Canada. Sylvie had the overall responsibility for all legal and regulatory aspects of the business, and, as counsel, was actively involved in all strategic and operational decisions of the corporation. In October of 2000, Algonquin Travel Corporation was acquired by MyTravel Group plc, a British publicly traded company. Sylvie became General Counsel of MyTravel Canada Inc. (now merged with Thomas Cook) and was responsible for all of the company’s Canadian legal requirements.
