Roy is an associate at Sicotte Guilbault and a member of the Business Law and Intellectual Property (IP) Group. Roy's business law practice includes establishment of small and medium size businesses (provincial, federal, professional corporations, etc...), shareholder/partnership agreements, shareholder buyouts, mergers/acquisitions of businesses, amalgamation, secured debt financing, commercial leasing, business restructuring and corporate reorganizations. In addition, Roy assists clients in estate and succession planning, including tax-efficient planning, estate freezes, intergenerational transfers of family wealth, Last Wills and Testaments (regular and business wills), Powers of Attorney tailored to specific individual and corporate needs.
Roy's IP experience focuses on trademark, copyright, and industrial design including filing and prosecution, availability and registrability opinions, and portfolio management and protection, licensing and other ancillary transactions. Roy regularly represents client in various litigation matters and practices in both official languages.
Currently, Roy is completing his LL.M. in tax law from Osgoode Hall Law School. Previously, he graduated from the University of Ottawa National Program receiving both the common law and civil law degrees (LL.B./LL.L. - cum laude). Prior to his legal career, Roy received a degree in Mechanical Engineering (magna cum laude) and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Ottawa. He worked in the engineering field specializing in the mechanical design and product packaging, as well as optical network system integration and verification.
